You have heard me say it before (actually, since I talk so much, you have probably heard me say EVERYTHING before) but this really is the best time of my life.

There are, however, moments when I worry that I am not offering enough up to the universe.  I mean, we lived such full and busy lives in our shared ministry with so many people (and often still do) that when I have titches of time to myself, I have to fight hard to not feel like I am just another ol' lady using up space on this planet.

And then I went to church this morning here in Myrtle Beach and they sang this song:

Make me a blessing, make me a blessing,
Out of my life, may Jesus shine;
Make me a blessing, O Savior, I pray,
Make me a blessing to someone today.

Joe had never heard it but I sang it all the time as a kid.  I can see my daddy leading it in Sunday School at our little Methodist Church in Chicago.  I am pretty sure that is the last time I sang it....
.... but I knew it as soon as I heard the tune and saw the words.

It was written in 1924 so it is just one of those old hymns that seldom gets sung anymore.  Has a kind of Pollyanna, Mary Poppins ring to it.

I wanted to be all those things when I was a kid...Out of my life, let Jesus shine...or Pollyanna...or Mary Poppins.

How annoying is that????

Anyway,when I heard that song, it just brought back all those memories and I thought how I am now  much older, some wiser, certainly deeper theologically BUT the child-like faith in me still finds those words meaningful because no matter how you feel about Jesus or Pollyanna or Mary Poppins, there is still value in just plain old being a blessing...paying it forward...whatever you wanna' call it....
...and when you sing a song like that it can even move you to DO something with those words.

Joe picked up the check for the people sitting behind us at Dennys ( $2 and $4 breakfasts deals for us!) for the 2nd time this month which I think is swell but I wondered why so asked him when we got to the car.

He said that song was playing through his head so he just thought he would "be a blessing for someone today."
See, that's NOT annoying...
....cuz' he actually acted on it!

All I am doing is telling you about how someone else was a blessing while humming the song.

Up to you what you wanna' do with it!

Make me a blessing, make me a blessing,
Out of my life, may Jesus shine;
Make me a blessing, O Savior, I pray,
Make me a blessing to someone today,

PS
If you want to hear the tune, you can look it up on YouTube or Joe and I will come to your house and sing it.

PPSS
Joe actually had that meal in the pic...$4....I had biscuits, gravy and hashbrowns....$2....just sayin'...

"ol' lady using up space" Really? I wouldn't quite put it that way. You seem to have a knack of saying and doing the right things that enrich so many peoples lives. Using up space indeed!
Heard a lot about this pay it forward thing you have going on over there, sometimes small acts of kindness mean the most. (Glad you enjoyed your Denny's breakfast too.) x

Like what Father Tim says in the Mitford books. 'Lord, let me be a blessing to someone today.'
