I may blog someday about the movie but today I blog about something that struck me as I watched Judi Dench (who is 80) on the BIG screen.
I LOVED her wrinkles. Honest.
I know she was playing a 'regular' woman so there were no 'tricks of the trade' used but, that being said, she looked LOVELY to me.
Real.
On the other hand, Joan Rivers (who is 80) has no wrinkles and I don't think she looks nearly as lovely.
Real?
When did we get the idea that we had to get rid of anything that marked the years we have lived?
Don't get me wrong. I think it is important to make the most of those years. Be healthy. Move! Keep up with current styles. Have pride in your appearance. Make the most of what you have.
Yadayadayada.
But, be YOU!
For example, hair coloring is swell but I got so very weary of dying my hair that I finally quit and I am glad.
I also know that I do not look as good as many 66 year olds....
...so sometimes the insecurities rise, indeed!
Like when my 8 year old grandson says to me, "Grandma, you would look younger if you didn't have so many wrinkles and your hair wasn't gray."
Yep.
It is okay for me to hear that and consider it and filter it and do the best I can to look the best I can...
...as long as it is the best REAL ME that I want to be on the outside...
...and as long as I am working even MORE on what is inside.
Just finished a book with a GREAT line about an older lady who just wasn't looking so good no matter how hard she tried:
"She had reached the age, alas, when habitual expressions leave their mark."
Isn't that great?
Your outsides reflect your insides and no 'tricks of the trades' can hide it so...
...lean into the years with which you have been 'gifted' and wear them proudly and authentically the way the REAL you wants to wear them and you will....
... leave your mark!
Confession:
Until it completely falls out, I shall pay to curl that GRAY hair...for REAL!

I don't mind my wrinkles, (I call it a lived in look,) or the laughter lines, (something must have been very, very funny, is all I'm going to say on that matter!) Botox, collagen lip injections, nips and tucks, definitely not for me. If I could pull of grey hair, (a new hair cut like Judi Dench's or indeed Annie Lennox) I may consider not making my hair artificially natural.
Apart from that, I'm growing older gracefully, it's who I am, warts and all.
P.S. Not only women messing with the face they were born with. Shocked to see Kenny Rogers, Barry Manilow, and don't get me started on Mickey Rourke!!!!
Anyway, another great blog, and may I say a fantastic photo of you, made me smile. x
