Been gone only 5 days and so much has happened.

Since I am finally sitting still (and it is pouring rain), I thought that I would share.

We left on Sunday at 11 am.  All set to fly out of Detroit.  On the plane.  Announced freezing fog in Chicago where our layover was to be.  Off the plane.  We are not gonna' make the connection to Miami.  Cancel hotel.  Back on plane.  Get to Chicago.  LOOOOOOOOOOOONG wait on tarmac.  Think we might miss flight to Miami.

Side note ...once again, my experience in the midst of frustrating circumstances in three different airports was one where people were respectful of each other...something I have blogged about before because I experience that EVERY time I travel and EVERY time I travel there IS some mishap...or one...or two.

Is there some kind of message here that I am not getting?

Anyway, back to the story....

Flight to Miami delayed. Arrive in Miami at 2 am.

No luggage (one with our clothes but two others with 50 lbs vitamins, fluoride, hats, STUFF more important than our clothes)....

...but, they send us to a room and we find them.  The luggage beat us there.  Apparently, luggage can fly in freezing fog.

Flight to Dominican is at noon.  No sense spending $150 to turn around and return at 9 am.

We crash at the airport.  Joe posts an awful photo of me.  It looks like an ugly old lady on a bench in an airport but, hey, it is what it is!

Nonetheless, we got here and we are grateful.

Yesterday, we took a car then a van then a gua-gua (no way to describe the roads or the driving) but here are some of the people with whom we are lucky enough to travel.

After about 40 minutes, we arrived at Dominican Feed the Kids where each child gets a vitamin after they have their lunch.  One way to offer a titch of nutrition. The food is beans/rice/globby/sticky stuff in plastic bowls.  The drink is water in plastic cups with one refill.

The poverty is profound.  I hate that.

It leaves me conflicted yet I return
which leaves me yet more conflicted.

I do not know how to put that in words right now
so I shall just share what I do not hate.

I do not hate seeing the children.
I love that
so today, I simply share TWO CHILDREN!

One who did not know I was taking his picture...

...and one who clearly DID!

(thanks for letting me share)
