Yesterday another fatal gun incident in one of our schools. On the news, it got the exact same amount of time as the guy who pushed over an ancient rock and is no longer allowed to be a Boy Scout leader and who may even be brought up on criminal charges,

It got less time than the towns who are banning costumes on Halloween cuz’ of “dietary and constitutional concerns.”

Yesterday, Eric Holder said the count for mass shootings in the USA in 2013 is, at least, twelve.

We actually have an annual mass shooting count.

I also recently heard on the news equally briefly that George Zimmerman has been stopped twice (among other incidents) since he was found innocent of murder. When stopped in Florida, he had a gun in his glove compartment.  His family said he feels unsafe (which I do not doubt).

With that gun available to him, if he “feels threatened” again, he can “stand his ground” again.  He can kill again.  It will be legal for him to do so.

People say that means nothing has changed.

I disagree.

I have changed and I am sorry.

I am now able to hear about mass shootings and just move on to the next subject with a shake of my head.  I can even talk about those next subjects as if they warrant more time:  a guy pushing over a rock, whether kids should put on a costume and have a treat, yadayadayada…

I worry deeply about that kind of change in myself.

I worry how that change in myself has brought us directly to nothing changing.
