I have just come through a busy crazy time again and am now in the middle of a week of  'just us'.

When it is so hectic, I yearn for less to DO and when it is quiet, I wonder what I should be DOING.

So, I meander.

I got stuck in that snow storm as I was flying from Michigan back to South Carolina this past weekend. Spent an unexpected night at a Fairfield Inn.  Met lotsa' folk:

a lady who offered to share her king size bed with me?!?
a lady who sold cashmere all over the world to 'rich women' and was quite proud to tell it
a woman who had come to help move her father into assisted living
a grandma who had custody of her 4 grandchildren so was anxious to return to them in California
several gentlemen who kindly helped me with my bag
a woman who was worried about going down south for the week with the family she loved but who she KNEW were so different than she politically that she had to decide NOW she would NOT talk politics!

I was, once again, in the midst of a TON of frustrated people who were STUCK and
NONE of them caused a problem.

This has happened to me MORE times than I can count.  Joe and I spent 24 hours getting on and off a delayed plane in Nairobi with people from all over the world.  We were on a plane to San Diego trying to comfort a young woman whose grandma actually died in the seat in front of us;  we all had to emergency land and await new crew members. We even landed in the WRONG airport in the Dominican after finally finding the right airport to take off from in Port au Prince.

IN EVERYONE OF THOSE SCENARIOS, PEOPLE SHOWED GRACE.

I KNOW that there are times when that does not happen.  But, those times are rare.  At least in my experience and I am blessed to have had many.

I guess I write this because I was so struck with it as I navigated this snowstorm travel once again in Detroit.  Masses of people trying to get here, there and everywhere and we were DOING it.  I mean, I was, once again, struck not with how we DON'T get along together but how we DO.

It really IS astonishing.

And then I went to my hotel room and sat in bed and watched the Super Bowl and, I admit, felt mightily miffed when those men began to push and shove and roll around on the ground at the end of the game.

Because of football.

Go figure.

I mean, imagine if that happened in the airport...or a store....or a school....or your home?

It really IS astonishing.

Just sayin'...
