Our son, Matthew, preached a most inspiring Easter sermon that touched me personally. Throughout the message, I kept going back and forth between the image of the tomb and the image of the dump.
Jesus didn't appear to be at the tomb but they DID find Him.
Jesus didn't appear to be at the dump, either, but we DID find Him.
Both felt empty yet full...
...and I am not sure how to reconcile that...
....because, I think that I felt at the dump what the women felt at the tomb:
"AFRAID yet filled with JOY!"
Afraid that this really was an empty place, afraid that Jesus really wasn't there, afraid that I might never find Him.
Afraid that when I did, He might be deeply disappointed that this was my first time here.
Afraid that when I did, He might be deeply disappointed that this was my first time here.
Just afraid.
And, then, Matt highlighted how the angel who was a young man SAT on the stone. That angel had joyful news.
I couldn't help but go back and forth again between that image at the tomb and
this young man as he SAT in the dump.
See the smile on his face.
I still don't know how to reconcile it because the angel had cause for joy but this young man???
He, like the others, had soup in styrofoam cups, water if they had a container and peanut better between 2 slices of white bread and they were sitting in a dump!
Joy seemed improbable...
...BUT, they smiled and they laughed and when I said "Dios de Bendiga", they said "Amen"!
It made me afraid yet filled with joy, in an improbable way...
...so it has stayed with me.
I STILL do not know how to reconcile people living, eating, gathering in a DUMP but I DO know that I need to climb up and over my fear and return to that place...
And then today I began to read the 8th book in the Ginny Dye series entitled The Bregdan Chronicles.
Check out the Bregdan Principle:
'Bregdan' is a gaelic term for weaving/braiding.
The folk at the dump are woven into MY history.
...because I need to go back and find Him again or BE Him again or do SOMETHING that moves from fear to joy because I believe the Bregdan Principle speaks the truth.
What we do...or don't do...matters!
So thereya' go, Fellow Weavers.
Just sayin'.
