When I was a little girl at Emmaus UMC in Chicago, we sang before Sunday School classes. One of the songs we sang had these lyrics:
“One door and only one and yet it’s sides are two. I’m on the inside, on which side are you?”
I naively sang the words with absolutely no thought to their nefarious meaning.
Then I grew up, stepped OUTSIDE that door and, thankfully, my mind and my heart and my soul...OPENED.
This week, though, those words have returned to me, playing over and over and over in my head and I HATE IT...because they frighten me. We CANNOT go back to that closed door!
I will not.
So I went searching for lyrics to replace those old ones and I found these in a Judy Collin’s song:
“Open the door and come on in. I’m so glad to see you, my friend. You’re like a RAINBOW comin’ around the bend.”
How about that?
God Messages abound!
THOSE are the lyrics I want my grandkids to sing at Sunday School. THOSE are the words I want to play over and over and over in my head...and my heart...to sing at church, inside, outside and all around.
“Open the door and come on in. I’m so glad to see you, my friend. You’re like a rainbow comin’ around the bend.”
Can I get an “AMEN”?
